My Collection

Today I went to the Paper Place to add to my collection of handmade paper. The green sheet to the left is made in Winnipeg and contains a variety of perennial and annual flower seeds. If you place the paper under a thin layer of soil, you will see Snap Dragons, Coreopsis, and Poppies in no time! The other sheet is Orizome, or fold and dip dye and is a Japanese technique. The third is Brazilian hand marbled paper. The sheet of paper isn’t handmade but the marbling is done by hand.

I now have a variety of interesting handmade paper and will be finishing my research and starting on my layouts.

Introduction

I am in the process of writing and designing a book on handmade paper. A large portion of my book will be comprised of paper samples that I have collected from various paper makers, along with information about the samples. I will also include paper that I made myself with information about how that process was accomplished. This will be my DIY chapter.

I was very fortunate to be able to visit Papeterie Saint-Armand in Montreal and Wendy Cain's home studio in Newburgh, Ontario. I learned a great deal about paper making from visiting these places and will be including images and information from both visits.

I would like to include a little bit of information about the history of paper making, but my goal is to make this book about my personal experiences and collection.
